O'Reilly on polygamy
Feb. 11th, 2005 09:18 amO'REILLY: We've got an incest problem within some polygamy families, right?
MOORE-EMMETT: Right.
O'REILLY: Do we have an abuse problem? I mean, a guy marries 10 women, that kind of a thing?
MOORE-EMMETT: There's a huge amount of abuse. ...
O'REILLY: Why doesn't the State of Utah, if what you say is true, with 50,000 of these people in the state, why doesn't the State of Utah go in and just basically take the children away and, you know, arrest these people on various social charges?
MOORE-EMMETT: Right. I've asked the same question to the attorney general's office, and what they tell you is that there aren't enough resources to go after them, but they will go after them when there is ample evidence.
So like right now we have a trial that's going on in Salt Lake, it's been going on for a year, and it's an abuse case, abuse and neglect, and just yesterday, there was a plot uncovered in court that there's a threat that they're going to blow up the Mathison (ph) Courthouse, they're going to kill the judge and kill the state's attorneys.
...
O'REILLY: Well -- and if gay marriage got approved, then polygamy would have to be approved under equal protection, as we have said many times.
All right, Madam. Interesting book. Thank you.
MOORE-EMMETT: No, I don't think so.
O'REILLY:
Next, we'll wrap things up with the "Most Ridiculous Item of the Day" and some of your mail.
MOORE-EMMETT: Right.
