Riding whales with girls

A nice piece depicting the struggle of the good with the better. The well-meaning traditionalist grandfather inevitably embraces the rise of female power. As
mocker_bat noted, the plot is quite predictable with several fresh twists keeping the intrigue alive. Ethnographic details provided a nice touch, on occasion quite impressive. Watching the portly uncle exhibiting unexpected grace with the battle stick was a surprising pleasure. The singing of the grandmother and Paikea at the school dedication simply gave me chills. As a feel-good flick the movie can recommended to everybody.
And a little jab at my beloved feminists.
While promoting the new role of women in the modern world, the movie underscores the decisive authority of blood ancestry. Chieftains beget chieftains, now male of female. The rest of us go our merry plebeian ways. The thought of the still well ordered world is very uplifting.
